International Cricket Council (ICC) chief David Richardson, on Monday (July 25), handed Steve Smith the ICC Test Championship mace and US$1million in prize money for Australia finishing as the top-ranked Test nation in the 12-month window.
"The mace is a symbol of excellence and recognition of a side's outstanding achievement in the toughest format of the sport. Australia's winning performances have been exceptional and they thoroughly deserve to be awarded the mace." said Mr Richardson.
Australia need at least a 1-0 series win in Sri Lanka to retain their top-spot.
