Big Bash League 2016-17 - Brisbane Heat Squad

Brendon McCullum (Captain), Chris Lynn, Samuel Badree, Joe Burns, Ben Cutting, Alex Doolan, Andrew Fekete, Luke Feldman, Jason Floros, Sam Heazlett, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Lalor, Brendon McCullum, James Peirson, Nathan Reardon, Alex Ross, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson, Jack Wildermuth

Ins: Heazlett, Labuschagne, McCullum, Ross (Adelaide Strikers)

Outs: Nick Buchanan, Peter Forrest, James Hopes, Lendl Simmons

Availability: Barring a Test recall for Burns or limited-overs call-up for Lynn, the Heat squad is likely to be unaffected by international commitments, with the returning McCullum having retired from international cricket.

Strengths: Lynn was the competition's leading run-scorer last summer and while he has been hampered by injury in recent months, anything close to that sort of showing will send Brisbane a long way towards returning to the finals after their sixth-place finish last summer. McCullum may be 35 but remains a match winner with the bat, although he is coming off back surgery. Burns was unavailable for much of last season because of Test selection so having him for the duration helps too.

Weaknesses: The bowling looks skinny again. West Indian spinner Badree was the only Brisbane bowler to take more than four wickets in last year's BBL – taking nine scalps in eight games albeit with the very tidy economy rate of 6.37.
