Big Bash League 2016-17 - Melbourne Stars Squad

David Hussey (Captain), Michael Beer, Scott Boland, James Faulkner, Seb Gotch, Evan Gulbis, Peter Handscomb, Sam Harper, John Hastings, Ben Hilfenhaus, Glenn Maxwell, Kevin Pietersen, Rob Quiney, Marcus Stoinis, Tom Triffit, Daniel Worrall, Luke Wright, Adam Zampa

Ins: None

Outs: None

Availability: There is an injury cloud over Hastings who hurt his leg during Victoria's recent Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania. Handscomb will miss the start of the tournament because of Test commitments, while Faulkner, Zampa and Maxwell will likely be unavailable for the latter part of the tournament due to Australia's ODI series against Pakistan.

Strengths: Ageing superstar Pietersen delivered last summer for the Stars to finish third in the list of BBL run scorers, while former England teammate Wright also impressed - saving his best for the blockbuster home derby against the Renegades. Arguably the team's biggest strength though was its breadth of contributors with the ball, with Zampa, Hilfenhaus, Boland, Stoinis, Beer, Hastings and Worrall all solid performers.

Weaknesses: The elephant in the room remains their finals record. The Stars have made the top four in every BBL instalment to date but have yet to win the title, although they at last broke their semi-final hoodoo last summer before losing to the Thunder in the final.
